This is the final vectorized version of Andy McMahon done in Adobe Illustrator CS5. Interestingly enough, I like some aspects of this one better and some aspects of the other one better...but overall I'm very pleased with this project in both formats.

This was a black-and-white spot done for the upcoming issue of the FIT newspaper. Apparently we have a newspaper! This was to accompany a regular section that deals with travel and places around the city, in this issue specifically it deals with finding halloween costumes at various specialty stores(like Halloween Adventure, Gothic Renaissance, etc).

Introducing the typical FIT pin-up girl and a slew of halloweenies :)

First Project... I'm back!

WELL... summer was hectic and crazy. Since I'm paying for my entire out-of-state college experience, I worked my little tush off as a waitress at the New Ewing Diner this summer, 5-6 days a week for about 9-12 hours per shift. Aside from the chaos of that, I thoroughly enjoyed my summer. Hopefully I will get a moment to upload some of the projects I worked on.

Meanwhile, I'm back at school and excited for the new semester. This year I'm throwing myself into every single thing I do... I want to push myself, break myself, bend and re-mold myself, experiment, fail, and succeed in every way imaginable. I love being here, I love what I do, and I want to go as hard as I can.

Here is my first project from William Low's "Illustrator for the Illustrator" class, a 10-colour Adobe Photoshop CS5 painting of Something Corporate frontman Andrew McMahon. This painting will be taken into Adobe Illustrator CS5 and vectorized in the coming weeks, so look out for the updated version!

"All The World's A Cage...

I chose to do this quote from an ETID song for my final in John Jay's figure drawing class this past semester. This piece was done in gouache, acrylic, and coloured pencil on a black gessoed piece of arche's cold-press watercolour paper. Probably one of my favorites to date. I had a lot of fun doing it and enjoyed letting myself experiment.

My favorite project in Heidi Younger's gen. illustration this past semester... my lovely llamas. Done in gouache, this piece was super fun because I got to create my own character of sorts from an everyday object. I chose to turn my faucet, soap dispenser, and spray-nozzle thingy in my kitchen sink into a lovely party of spitting llamas. :)

This piece will be on exhibition and for sale during the one day only Drawgasmic bonanza, with about 400+ other artists worldwide including professionals, students, and everyone in between. I am promoting as best as I can... he, he, he. I am quite excited! This is my first art show, ever. I never had the opportunity to be part of an art show in high school (we didn't have any exhibitions, ever) and I didn't make it into the FIT Illustration House thing, so this is really exciting for me.

The piece, entitled "If I Only Had the Paint, the Paper, ...the Courage" is very personal to me, and is about how I have all these ideas floating around in my head, but I doubt myself and beat myself up instead of just putting the paintbrush to the paper. Even with this exhibition, which was open-themed, I had trouble coming up with what to do... so I decided to get my frustration out by painting it.

Also done for Soyka's Concepts & Application II class, this is Paul McCartney... in a casket... as a walrus. Admittedly he looks more like a demented sabretooth tiger... and not like a walrus at all. Done in gouache paints, the splatter (which is pictured here before it dried, I like the effect) done in acrylic and the flowers had some touch-up help via coloured pencils. My last project for that class, I think it could have been way better... but it's a rather comical fail. Enjoy.

Okay, so my "job" is to drive this old man named Ted to visit his wife in the nursing home (who has Alzheimer's) for 15$ an hour. Ted is 93, but incredibly spritely and rather amazing... I feel guilty for receiving payment, he's like a second grandfather to me... and uh. These are some of the incredible treasures I encounter at Greenwood House. And yes, that second one... she really says that. Often.

Merlin's beard! Such a beard. It's Dumbledore's, actually, but uh... I think that's some sort of copyright infringement? So we can just say he's an androgynous wizard with a SUPER FANTASTIC AND MAGICAL beard. :) i fixed him quite a bit, i like him so much better.

"Albus Dumbledore"

For my figure drawing class with John Jay Cabuay, we were asked to create a portrait of someone we admire using mixed media and a splattered background... I chose to do Albus Dumbledore, mostly because I really very badly wanted to render his magnificent beard. I really mostly just admire his beard. But he's a pretty cool guy all in all. And here he is, done in a grand total of: oil pastel, chalk pastel, coloured pencil, and acrylic. :)

My first time using gouache! I love it now, it's very much a difficult medium but I like it a lot and I hope to continue using it to its' full advantages. Anyways, this piece was done for General Illustration with Heidi Younger, the theme was "decreasing". So, the yolk spilling out, blah blah blah, decreasing, Humpty Dumpty, voila!

"The Spirit of Emulation"

So this semester I have Heidi Younger for my General Illustration IV class. Our first project is behind us and I am extremely proud of it... it was based on the article/short story "The Spirit of Emulation" which is about animals and stuff (blah blah blah), and this is what I came up with:

Ta-da! Done in acrylic paint on a nice untextured cardboard-ish surface, here she is, probably one of the best paintings I've ever completed. This semester I've decided that I need to push myself in this medium, because I love to paint and I've just been so afraid of it.

Anyway, so, yeah. Happy February :) but for the love of god, no more snow please!!

OH and my boyfriend got me these beautiful daisies for no good reason, I thought I'd share them with you. No one has ever gotten me flowers for no good reason before :) They bring me so much happiness, they're so beautiful! Enjoy!

I can't wait to have my scanner back and scan in some of the better sketches I did over break. I didn't do as much art as I would've liked to.... but c'est la vie. I was too busy playing photographer! And I had so much fun. Needless to say, I've had my break, I'm ready to get back to FIT and do some art!

Typographix '09

This past semester I had Albert Lin for "Designing With Type", a Communications Design class that Illustration students are required to take. It's basically a typography class... I learned so much this past semester and I'm proud of how far I came. I think a lot of my typographic sense was very boring to begin with, and by the end of everything even though I spent more than a handful of sleepless nights hunched over my computer, I'm able to say that I'm pretty proud of myself. I'm absolutely pleased with how my final presentation came out... I put days of work into that, let alone the typography itself... I tried to put a lot of myself and a lot of heart into it. It was VERY "me", if I do say so myself. So here's a taste of the better pieces from my project!

I crafted the inside and outside of my box myself with glitter paper, black foam-core board, black presentation matte board, metal aviator sunglasses frames, a chain, rhinestones, Disney's Sleeping Beauty glitter glue by Elmer's glue, and HOURS UPON HOURS OF LOVE AND DEDICATION.

Lately I've been sticking my fingers into about as many pies as possible. Most recently I've been playing photographer and messing with my new DSLR, a Canon Rebel XS. Nothing superfancy, but probably one of the smarter investments I've made in my lifetime... it was my Christmas present even though I paid for more than half of it, but I don't mind. I guess I have expensive taste. Anyway, I went to see Passion Pit at Terminal 5 in NYC on Jan. 9th with my friend Jessica and I snuck my camera in with me. The security guards threatened to throw me out because I didn't have a "permit"... you know, since my camera is fancy. But I'm rather stubborn. So I used it anyway.

(Terminal Five had the most fabulous breath-taking light show I have EVER witnessed.)

There are many more of these but that's an awful lot to focus on and upload and for you viewers to click and such so i just figured I'd give you a little taste. (:

I like playing photographer. I like Passion Pit. I like Terminal Five. I like you, too.

Bah, Humbug. So, Jacqui Morgan '09 so many regrets... I have her for General Illustration III this semester. Our first project is a 3-piece Public Service Announcement that's supposed to center around something we feel strongly about, so I did mine against smoking. I have only included 2 of my 3 pieces here, the third piece was horrific and I'm rather ashamed of it, although I think I'm alright with how the first two came out.

These pieces were done in coloured pencil, marker, and india ink on watercolour paper, with some touch-ups in Photoshop.

HIYA HUN CAN I HAVE HALF A GRAPEFRUIT AND SOME COTTAGE CHEESE? COFFEE I'LL TAKE BLACK. *COUGHHACKWHEEEEZE* NO, NO, HUN, I'M ALRIGHT.(Thanks to my models, Katie Wilbur & Marissa Jumper!)

Really old, but really classic. Or so i've found them to be. Eh, anyway, here's my 4-page "children's book" final from Scott Bakal's photoshop class 2nd semester. Based on the Every Time I Die song "She's My Rushmore"... the finish was way cooler, scrapbooked some city skylines out of concert pictures and there was SO MUCH GLITTER GLUE! But uh. Here Ya Go.
